When to See an Eye Doctor
Routine schedules and urgent warning signs.
The American Optometric Association recommends adults 18–64 have a comprehensive eye exam at least every two years, and adults 65+ every year — more often with diabetes, glaucoma risk or other conditions.
Go to the ER or call 911 for
- Sudden vision loss, a curtain over part of your vision, or a sudden shower of floaters and flashes.
- Chemical splashes (rinse with water for 15 minutes first).
- Penetrating eye injuries.
Book an exam soon for
- Blurry vision, headaches with reading, trouble driving at night.
- A red, painful eye or light sensitivity.
